Cookie Policy

Last updated: April 20, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar tracking technologies EmpireOS uses, why we use them, and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember preferences, and to give site owners analytics information. EmpireOS uses a small, focused set of cookies — we do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

2. Cookies We Set

Clerk session cookies

Strictly necessary

Clerk, our authentication provider, sets session cookies to keep you signed in across page loads. Without these cookies the service cannot function. They include:

  • __session — your encrypted session token. Expires when you sign out or after 1 year of inactivity.
  • __client_uat — a timestamp used by Clerk to refresh your session without prompting for login. Session-scoped.

These cookies are set by the clerk.com domain or your EmpireOS domain. They cannot be opted out of while you are signed in.

Theme preference

Functional

If a light/dark theme toggle is added in the future, your preference will be stored in either a cookie or localStorage. Currently EmpireOS uses a fixed dark theme and does not set a theme cookie.

3. Third-Party Cookies

PostHog analytics

Analytics (optional)

If PostHog analytics is enabled in your account region, it places a cookie (typically ph_*) to track pseudonymous session events — which features you use, how long you spend on pages, and similar product-quality signals. No personally identifiable information is shared unless you are explicitly identified via PostHog's identify API.

PostHog operates under its own privacy policy. Data may be stored on PostHog Cloud (US or EU region).

4. What We Do Not Use

  • Advertising or retargeting cookies — we do not run ads.
  • Social media tracking pixels — no Facebook, Twitter/X, or LinkedIn trackers.
  • Cross-site fingerprinting or browser fingerprinting libraries.

5. How to Control Cookies

Browser settings

All modern browsers let you view, block, and delete cookies. Blocking strictly necessary cookies (Clerk session) will prevent you from signing in. Blocking analytics cookies is safe and has no effect on core functionality.

  • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions

Do Not Track

If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal, we honour it by disabling PostHog analytics for your session. Strictly necessary session cookies are unaffected.

PostHog opt-out

To opt out of PostHog tracking specifically, email us at findbene@gmail.com and we will exclude your account from analytics collection.

6. Changes to This Policy

We will update this policy if we add new cookies or tracking technologies. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes.
